Gynxiacre Summer Camp 2007 - Day 1
As usual for Genus we set off early in the morning, though not as early this time. We arrived at the campsite round about lunchtime and were greeted with thistles and very strong winds, which made putting up the tents interesting. Anyway we went about setting up camp, and as normal Genus brought some luxuries to camp. This camp we took a combined flat-screen TV/DVD player, microwave, and 2 gas camp cookers amongst other items (though sadly the Genus Network sign never got out the van for the duration of the camp). The reactions of the Lynx and Sandiacre members were priceless; they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Then of course we were treated to Derrick’s jokes, enough said.
The weather soon worsened as it started to rain. The winds were that strong that they were already causing problems to the tents (mine kept dismantling at the front and was getting worried about it). After setting up camp we headed off to Llandudno for some sight seeing and lunch.
Upon our arrival back at the campsite the dinning shelter had fallen down and my tent dismantled itself again. The weather was still awful and we were all wondering whether this bad weather was in for the camp (at the campsite at least as we had better weather in Llandudno). The strong winds and rain would continue well into the night and cause more problems, even the marquee was trying to move. For the evening we had tea and watched a DVD in the “trying to move” marquee, then it was bedtime and I kept thinking to myself “this is going to be interesting”, being as I would be in a tent that getting smaller from one side, and it was still raining too. How I managed to get any sleep at all was beyond me.
