Peak 2005
In the Summer of 2005 6000 Scouts and Guides gathered at Chatsworth Park in Derbyshire for the biggest Scout and Guide camp of the year. Genus Network members Michael Baxter and Adam Thompson were amongst them.
Adam was on the Archery team, and here he recalls his week at Peak 2005.
Back in 2000 I attended my first Peak camp, back then I was a Venture Scout. I enjoyed it so much that I already thought about wanting to attend Peak 2005. This nearly did not happen in the end, but thanks to a late invite to the archery team I was in.
So I set off for Peak 2005 on the Friday evening, having packed all my gear and checked everything. All was going fine until my car a suffered a breakdown in Matlock Bath. At this point I began to wonder if I would ever make it to camp. I did make it to Peak in the end (thanks to my parents) and could then look forward to 9 days camping.
As I mentioned I was on the archery team at Peak 2005. This was the second Peak camp in succession that I was doing Archery having been on the same activity team at Peak 2000.
As the archery sessions progressed I was wondering if I would end up teaching any foreign guests (at Peak 2000 I took on 2 foreign campers, 1 Swedish and 1 German). This time though I did not have any foreign guests myself.
Overall it was an excellent camp and certainly hope to be at Peak 2010. Oh, and I should add a mention to my old leaders at 1st Duffield. Thanks for the lift home.
