Lynx Network Sailing Trip 2007
On the weekend of the 7th-9th September 2007 Genus Network joined Lynx Network and members of Sandiacre Fellowship for a weekend sailing trip along the East Coast.
The journey to the harbor, in Ipswich, was rather eventful. I was given the job of navigating us from Duffield and Ipswich and was given the directions which were rather straight-forward. However Andy, who was driving, also set up the SatNav and as we get further into the journey the SatNav started giving out some rather odd instructions (odd as in they were different to the printed directions I was using). Two examples:
- SatNav tells us to come off the M1 at junction 20. Directions say junction 19. I said to carry on to junction 19 and won (just)
- Directions say stay on the A14 nearly all the way to Ipswich, but SatNav takes us off onto the M11. This time the SatNav won and we ended up doing a round-loop detour of Cambridge before heading back onto the A14.
It then turned out that Andy had set his SatNav to go the sailing company's head office, which was in Colchester. Hmmm, no wonder we were going the wrong way.
Anyway after correcting the error of the way we were back on track, and eventually made it to the Ipswich harbor.
The sailing itself started on the Saturday Morning, setting off from Ipswich, past Felixstowe and eventually to our destination for the night which was Burnham on Crouch. Everyone had a turn at steering the boat, for me this was a good experience and enjoyed it.
On the Sunday we headed back to Ipswich more-or-less the same way we came back, only this time we went along the Thames Estuary. Again we all had a go at steering the boat.
A very enjoyable weekend was had by all, and no doubt we'll be up for another sailing trip in the near future.
Thanks to Dan Weaver of Lynx Network for organising the event.
